CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Bartholomew Fatima
Character Canon: Xenogears

History: link one and link two

AU History: Rather than being born into Royalty, Bart was born into a fairly affluent (y'know, for caldera) family in Caldera. Both of his parents were highly respected Earthkin soldiers, and were vital in the efforts to defend the city. When Bart was six years old, his parents were killed while on a reconnaissance mission near Gigas.

Bart was understandably devastated by the news. Luckily though, he had more family, and was raised from then on by his older brother, and a dear family friend who happened to be a retired soldier himself (both remaining nameless despite the fact that no one will ever play them). They gave him the best life they could, and always hoped he would one day lead their city to greatness as a powerful soldier.

And... Well, he became a powerful soldier, at least. He didn't take to studies too much, but he did display the abilities of an enlightened, much like his parents, from an early age. And when he was finally of age, he entered the Earthkin forces, and headed to the front lines of battle.

For a while, he fought valiantly, until he was involved in an accident that took one of his eyes. Because of the severity of his injury, he was sent off to Union city once he recovered. Depth perception is apparently more important in battle than in delving.

Fei is totally going to let him live with him, share his bed, cook eggs...

Canon Personality: "The people who started the war are the reason. And unless you fight to get rid of the reason, nothing will ever change. I fight to get rid of the reason."

Huge idiot Confrontational is a pretty good all-around description of Bart. Not to say that he's unfriendly, or wholly unpleasant to be around, but he's the kind of guy who likes to shoot first and ask questions later. As evidenced when he meets Fei, his future best friend, pretty much. He initially believes Fei to be an enemy, and totally refuses to believe his near-constant dismissal of that idea. Instead, he jumps right into a Gear fight with Fei, causing them both to fall into a massive cave under the desert.

Bart is pretty impulsive, and usually makes snap judgments about people which usually lead him to jumping right into fights before he's got all the facts. He claims to dislike fighting, and that was probably true at one point. He was traumatized by the beatings he endured after being detained by Shakan and his men. But thanks to Sigurd and Old Maison, he overcame it, and learned to fight with the same weapon that was used on him.

A strong sense of justice, and empathy for those who are oppressed, or too weak to stand up for themselves, are what drive his will to fight. He despises people who abuse power, and won't hesitate to put himself in harm's way to see them brought down. In fact, it's probably what brought about the satisfaction he gets from fighting. He wants to take matters into his own hands, to be directly responsibly for the change he wants to see in the world, and so he meets adversity head on. It's also likely that rather than becoming excited by the idea of harming another life, it's simply the adrenaline rush that draws him toward fighting. The idea of putting his life on the line in a dangerous situation is pretty appealing, when it isn't done needlessly.

Okay, so he's got a strong sense of duty and purpose, and he hates liars so he's not always easy to win over when you mean him no harm. Given his life up to this point, he isn't very trusting when he doesn't have very good reason to be. He can be a little dense at times too, letting his bias cloud his judgement. But eventually, he can cool off and see reason. He's a very caring guy when he actually lets people in, and he loves goofing around enjoying what life has to offer outside of war.

AU Deviation: It won't be a terribly drastic change, but there will be some minor differences.

For one, Bart himself wasn't kidnapped and beaten by the opposition, and he didn't try sacrifice himself to protect Margie from being beaten. I think this will affect his personality in a couple of ways. He sort of developed a bit of a hero complex from saving Margie, and always felt like the weight of Aveh was constantly on his shoulders. While he'll still have a strong sense of duty toward Caldera, he might be a little more relaxed about it. Delving in Union is still serving the people back home, so he won't go crazy over it. He also won't be so worried about disappointing what's left of his family.

He also might not be QUITE as mistrustful of Gigas citizens as he was of Solarians. Of course, the people of Gigas are responsible for the deaths of his parents, and they do want to tear down his city... But hey, at least they didn't beat him! He might be a little more trusting should someone from Gigas truly want to prove him or herself as an ally.

Canon Abilities: SO bart fights using whips. That's kind of straight forward, he cracks them on people and trips them up etc. His attack power isn't the highest in the game, but his speed is pretty top notch.

If I need to, I can list out all his ethers and deathblows, but it makes more sense to just describe what sort of special attacks he has. And he doesn't have many ethers anyway.

Only one of his ethers is a direct attack. The rest have a few different functions. Lowering enemy accuracy, boosting his own accuracy and evasion or strength, drawing aggro, or adding one of the four elements to his attacks.

A lot of his deathblows are pretty flashy. A few have the appearance of wind elemental attacks, but they're all purely physical, aside from a single set each imbued with one of the elements.

Enlightened Abilities: Flying/Steel - Mastery of Battle

Bart fights using a whip, and for a while, all his enlightened alignments will do is aid in his general attributes. He is naturally quicker than most, and the flying attribute will definitely help there. And the steel will give him just a little boost of defense. It can also affect his whip IF THAT'S ALLOWED, it could be stronger or spiky. OR it could just be more defense as he gets stronger.

As his levels climb, his flying power will be even more pronounced. He'll be able to jumper higher and farther, and move faster. Eventually he'll be able to use moves that mirror his deathblows, like using a small cyclone attack, and even gaining a pair of translucent wings he can use to glide for a short time.

Starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur starter and an ultra common Zigzagoon

Notes/Special Considerations: I CAN'T... think of anything at the moment.

SAMPLES

First-Person:subbing questions!
-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
Whatever it takes!! Wrestling a giant Graveler because Fei got in over his head (who would be the one to get in over their head??)? I'd do it in a second! I'd get right out there and bring them home. Doesn't matter what might be waiting out there for us.

-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
The Pokemon! Wait, you said the Pokemon didn't start it, right? Who's just goin' around beating up on wild Pokemon? Training is one thing, but you're making it sound like the guy's being a bully. Isn't that the situation? I guess if the Pokemon is doing okay, I could let them go at it. But if not, I could help out to even things up a bit.

-What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
It's to Caldera. Or well, the people there. And the people in Union too. I mean, where would Gigas go if they got what they wanted in my home town, huh? Straight here to Union probably. Keeping them off our backs is the number one priority. They don't have any right to interfere in everyone else's lives.

-You plunge into the depths of the Old City. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?
Technology! Treasure and all that is great, but what're we gonna do with it right now? What we need to stop Gigas is to bring our technology to their level. Hey! After we win, we can go back for all that treasure.

Third-Person: Bart hadn't put much thought into training with his Pokemon until today. Honestly, it was something he thought would occur naturally. But, after seeing all of Fei's work, he started to realize that wasn't exactly the case... And he wasn't entirely thrilled about it, at first.

But, that's all about to change! So maybe he's not the best at training Pokemon, so what? Obviously, he just needs to put his own spin on it, to do it his own way. That'll make it more interesting and more effective, hopefully. And what better place to conduct this training than from inside the comfort of Fei's his own home?

He's made a little clearing in the main room, and after a few basic moves, thy're ready to practice the big finish. He's gone over it with them a dozen times, probably, but now it's time to see it in action. Once everyone is in position, he gives the signal to go. Andvari, the Bulbasaur, wraps a vine around Asher, the Zigzagoon, and launches him into the air. And this is when Asher is supposed to use a concentrated pin missile attack, raining "missiles" down on their imaginary foe. But, as Bart stands back, his arms crossed and his expression smug, he begins to realize something.

It's not really going as planned.

Andvari and Bart have just enough time to duck behind whatever they can before Asher sends pins flying all over the room. It turns out that he's not so great at controlling where they actually go when they leave his body. Once the damage is done, and it's safe to return from hiding, Bart takes a glance at all the damage. The walls and furniture are full of pins. Everything that could have been punctured is.

"Huh..." He stammers, still surveying the damage. "Hey! I have an idea! Let's get outta here for a while."

They could all use some fresh air! And that'll give him time to think of the best way to calm Fei down once he sees the state his living room is in.
